Welcome to Devil’s Rock Books
Devil’s Rock Books is now live. That’s right. You’re here with us.
It isn’t perfect.
There are things still to add.
There will be bugs.
Some features are half-built, others still living in my head.
And that’s okay — because this site is finally doing the thing it was built to do.
This is the start.
What is Devil’s Rock Books?
At its heart, Devil’s Rock Books is a home for quality horror.
Not all horror. Not everything. Not whatever an algorithm decides is trending this week. Not whatever “Bestselling” romance or LitRPG Amazon decides to throw into the wrong chart.
This is a site built around human-verified, carefully curated horror fiction — books that have been read, checked, and deliberately added by people who care about the genre.
The centrepiece of the site is the Horror Library: a growing catalogue of horror novels and collections, organised by genre, and added manually rather than scraped, auto-generated, or polluted by keyword gaming.
Alongside the library, Devil’s Rock Books also houses:
- Books published through Devil’s Rock Publishing
- Episodes of The Writer’s Chair podcast
- Services designed to help authors of horror and dark fiction
Everything here exists for one reason: to support horror readers and writers in a way that feels honest, intentional, and human.
The Horror Library (and why it matters)
The Horror Library is the core of Devil’s Rock Books.
Every book added to the library is manually selected. These are not AI summaries. They are not bulk imports. They are not the result of recommendation engines quietly feeding on each other.
We are deliberately avoiding polluted algorithms and automated content farms in favour of something slower, more careful, and more trustworthy.
Why?
Because horror readers deserve better than:
- Endless recycled recommendations
- AI-written reviews that say nothing
- Platforms optimised for volume, not quality
And horror authors deserve:
- Fair representation
- Context
- A space where their work isn’t buried under noise
This library will grow slowly. That’s intentional.
Our Devil’s Rock Mission
Devil’s Rock Books exists to:
- Champion quality over quantity
- Keep humans involved in curation and criticism
- Support horror as a genre with depth, history, and craft
- Build trust with readers, not chase clicks
- Create something sustainable, not extractive
This isn’t about “disrupting” anything. It’s about building something better, piece by piece.
This is a phased build (and always will be)
Devil’s Rock Books is not finished — and it never will be.
Here’s how the build is unfolding.
Phase 1 – The Foundation (now)
- Launch the Horror Library
- Introduce 14 primary horror genres to browse
- Focus on adding good books, not all books
More genres will be added in the future, but the priority right now is building a strong, reliable base.
Phase 2 – Author discoverability
- Clearer author pages
- Easier ways to explore an author’s work
- Better pathways through the catalogue
Phase 3 – Filters and search
- Improved filtering
- Deeper browsing tools
- Smarter ways to find what you’re actually looking for
Each phase builds on the last. Nothing here is rushed.
Built with (and for) the community
This site is not meant to be a finished product handed down from on high.
It’s meant to be shaped by the people who use it.
If something is wrong — tell us.
If a book is missing — tell us.
If you have an idea that would make the site better — tell us.
There’s a Contact page for exactly this reason. Devil’s Rock Books will be better if readers and writers help shape it.
How the site is funded
Devil’s Rock Books is entirely volunteer-led.
The site is funded through affiliate links only. If you choose to buy a book through one of these links, it helps keep the site running — and it costs you nothing extra.
There are no paywalls.
No ads cluttering the pages.
No sponsored placements.
Just a transparent way to keep the lights on.
A clear stance on AI
Devil’s Rock Books is anti-AI in creative work.
The books here are written by people.
The library is curated by people.
The opinions, services and recommendations are human.
That said, like most small projects, tools may occasionally be used in marketing or administrative tasks. But AI does not write the books, curate the library, or replace human judgement here.
That line matters — and it’s one we won’t blur.
This is just the beginning
Devil’s Rock Books is a long-term project.
It will grow slowly. It will evolve. It will improve with feedback, time, and care.
If you’re here early, thank you.
If you spot cracks, help us fix them.
If you love horror, you’re in the right place.
